Furious PDP senators walk out of Senate as Amaechi is confirmed as minister

The former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has just been confirmed as a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria. PDP senators however walked out of the senate in protest of the confirmation. The Senate also rejected the report of the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges that a nominee who has a corruption case in court should not be confirmed until the case is cleared.

APC senators, who make up the majority of the Senate, argued that the senate has no right to interfere in a court proceedings and neither should such proceedings influence its decisions. Ameachi was eventually confirmed in the absence of the PDP senators.
