Man jailed for forwarding text message containing a joke about Pres. Mugabe to neighbours


A 38-year-old Zimbabwean man named Titus Maposa has been jailed for forwarding a joke on Mugabe to all his neighbours. According to Manica Post newspaper, Maposa's neighbours sent the text message to the police and he was arrested.

The offending joke was a message falsely attributed to Ecocash, Zimbabwe's mobile money transfer scheme, which said the president had deposited $1 500 (R20 745) into their account.

Oil thieves jailed for 84 yrs

Passengers flee as plane bursts into flames on the tarmac at Fort Lauderdale airport in Florida (photos)


A plane caught fire at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida airport today, sending passengers fleeing for their lives out of the aircraft's emergency slides. The plane was engulfed in thick black flames before airport firefighters came and extinguished the fire. Everyone was safely taken off the plane but about seven people were injured while three people were sent to the hospital.

No way out: Appeal Court gives CCT the go ahead to try Saraki for corruption


This morning, Justice Moore Adumen of the Court of Appeal upheld the trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Saraki had run to the Court of Appeal to stop his trial at the CCT, where he has been charged on 13-counts with false asset declaration.
But while reading the unanimous verdict of the three man panel, Adumen said the tribunal, which docked Saraki, was properly constituted. He relied on section 28 of the Interpretation Act to reach the decision. Saraki lawyer however says they will be heading to the Supreme Court but his trial at the CCT resumes on November 5.

BVN Deadline: 26m bank accounts to be frozen


With less than 1 day to the deadline for Bank Verification Number, BVN, about 26 million account holders still haven't  registered to protect their money.

Female soldiers serving at Guantanamo Bay are not being allowed to transport inmates following a court order issued in response to prisoners who complained on religious grounds, according to US Republican senators who recently returned from a visit to the prison camp.
Inmates apparently complained that female soldiers' actions were an insult to their Islamic faith, but the senators blasted the court's decision as an "insult to women."
