U.S based Nigerian doctor builds 100 houses for widows

Dr Godwin Maduka built the bungalows for widows and other indigent persons in his home town, Umuchukwu, Anambra State. He replaced all the thatched house in the area with 3 or 4-bedroom bungalows. According to him: “I embarked on all these to save my people from my ugly experience while growing up.
I grew up in a home that when it rained, it rained more inside than outside. Wealth would be meaningless if it cannot be used to better the lives of the people around the custodian. The wealthy must provide jobs for the youths; build skills acquisition centers for willing adults, market stalls for men and women, if society must be secure.
He believes that government alone cannot give resounding development due to its meagre resources. Maduka has opened up his town by building schools, hospitals, churches, security posts, industries, police station, community centre, post office, a state High Court, provided transformers, civic centre and so on. Umuchukwu, formerly called Nkerehi, was one of the most backward and remote towns in the state, as it was totally denied any meaningful government attention.
It was in abysmal destitution but Maduka’s gesture compelled former governor of the state, Peter Obi, to construct two roads for them. According to his P.A, Vincent Otaokpukpu, “When they visited then governor Obi with the story of the absence of roads in the area, Maduka promised to finance 50% of the road contract, while the state would pay 50%. Obi, moved by such an offer, decided to visit the community himself and what he saw overwhelmed him and he took sole responsibility of building the two roads alone.
Maduka bagged a Bsc in Chemistry from Rut College Holy Spring Mississippi and a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Mercer University of Pharmacy Atlanta Georgia. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the University of Tennessee School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine Degree. He then proceeded to Harvard University School of Medicine where he completed his Graduate Medical Training in 1997. He is the founder of Las Vegas Pain Institute.
