The vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, during a conference held at the University of Ibadan on Thursday, October 22, reiterated the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government’s efforts in making sure that all the monies stolen by government officials are returned.
The professor restated that the current administration fight corruption to a standstill.
Osinbajo noted that President Buhari is resolute in the anti-corruption campaign especially recovering looted funds through the strengthening of institutions, improving sanction and enforcement and upholding the rule of law.
The vice president who was represented by the secretary, presidential advisory committee on anti-corruption, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, noted that teaching was critical to building minds and nations.
According to the professor, Buhari’s administration is based on three cardinal goals of improving security, fighting corruption and growing the economy.
However, as a suggestion to boost the on-going anti-corruption efforts, there had been a request by the Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation for the federal government to replicate the resolution of the United Nations (UN) on teaching philosophy from secondary schools level in the country.
Charles Anyiam-Osigwe, coordinator-general of the foundation, said that the implementation would be an impetus that would help in fighting corruption.
The coordinator-general added that the late Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe’s philosophical thought on building a society free of corrupt practices was crucial to the current efforts of the current administration to rid Nigeria of corruption.
Noting that tackling corruption is only an aspect of issues that undermine Africa’s development, Osigwe said: “We opine that there has never been development without the philosophical compass. Transcending the primitive stage of early human existence, development evolved from the contemplative insights of thinking minds in our early societies.”
Applauding the initiative in view of the fact that it was in partnership with the academic, the vice president however promised that the recommendations at the conference would be communicated to the presidency for consideration.
In another development, the vice president had on Tuesday, October 20, said that he has seen wealthy people who are being enlisted into acts of terrorism.
Although he did not name any individuals, Osinbajo in a statement by his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Laolu Akande, quoted him as saying that the development is a clear departure from the case of those who were lured into participating in terrorism acts for money.
