19-year-old Chinyere Amechi, fled her parents’ house about one and half years ago during which she got impregnated by her boyfriend, Nonso Nnamba, and gave birth to a baby at Maternal and Child Health Centre (MCC), First Gate, First Avenue, Festac, Lagos.
She offered the baby to Mrs Virginia Nwauzor, a registered midwife at hospital, who in turn took him to another member of the syndicate, Mrs. Rose Ekewe, 51, who effected the sale and gave Chinyere N50,000.
Like a prodigal child, Chinyere returned home to her parents who took her to a private hospital for medical check-up, and that’s when the cookie crumbled. The medical examination revealed that she had given birth.
After much pressure, she opened up to her parents and told then that she had given the money to her boyfriend who used it to rent a room apartment at Orile. Mrs Nwauzor, Mrs Ekewe and Nonso are currently in detention as investigation goes on with the baby still missing.
