Buhari does not have to probe APC members – Lagos Chairman

The Chairman, Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Henry Ajomale, says he does not believe in assessing 100 days in office because the time frame is not enough to make any tangible achievements.

Ajomale said those criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over poor performance in his 100 days in office were not being sincere.

He added that Buhari did not have sufficient resources to work with.

The APC chairman in an interview on Wednesday said, “I have always been saying that I don’t believe in 100 days because practically there is nothing anybody can achieve in 100 days, especially when you don’t meet all the requirements that you need to govern at the time you were inaugurated.

“You will find out that at the time that President Buhari took over power, he virtually met an empty treasury. What can he do within 100 days? Nevertheless, everybody saw the improvement.

“I am not saying we have got to where we are supposed to be but there is an improvement in electricity supply. Nigerians are happy and grateful; something that has never happened since 1999 has been achieved.”

While responding to allegations that the President’s anti-corruption programme was selective, Ajomale said there was no need to probe APC members because they were not part of the previous Federal Government.

He said those making the allegations were afraid of being probed because they had something to hide.

“If they have nothing to fear, those being probed should not bother themselves. The APC was never in government, why does the President have to probe them? If a man makes genuine money through his private enterprises, no government can probe that business since he has nothing to do with governance. I think the accusation is diversionary.

“We should concentrate on what we want to do in terms of making those who served in the previous government to explain how they got the wealth they have made within that period. There are quite a number of them who are above board.

“Some of these people are corrupt and should be probed and that is essentially what they are doing, there is no witch-hunt in the present anti-corruption war. It is the immediate past government that any reasonable person would probe.”
