Herbalist and couple got arrested for selling 2-week-old baby for N300k

Last week, Mr Onolaja Olawale sold the baby to Mr and Mrs Dele Ayogbile, who have been barren for six years, after telling them that the biological mother was dead. Co-tenants of the couple, who never

saw Mrs Oluwakemi Ayogbinle pregnant, suspected foul play and contacted the police. Police investigation revealed that the baby belongs to the herbalist’s family friend.

The mother of the baby, Mrs Idiat Babatunde, who had just concluded her HND at the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, claimed to have left the baby in the care of the Olawales, in their Iyana Ipaja, Lagos home, 8 days after delivery. She left for school to conclude documentation in her faculty, towards the compulsory one year NYSC.

But next day, the herbalist invited the barren couple to come and pick a baby for adoption. Olawale did not deny selling the baby but stated that the mother of the baby was aware, alleging that she collected N70,000 of the initial payment of N136,000 for the sale of the baby.

He said she gave him the baby to take care of because his wife is also breastfeeding. Mrs Idiat Babatunde however denied knowledge of the sale of her baby, let alone collecting any money from Olawale….. d baby however burst into tears wen it heard d ridiculous amount it was sold…..
