Despite denials, CCTV footage reveals that U.S based Nigerian was battered by cops before he died in jail. ( video inside )

A shocking video has shown the moment Mathew Ajibade, 21, was beaten and tasered by police just hours before he died in custody. The video shows him being punched and kicked in the head. He died some hours later. The video was taken in a jail in Georgia. Ajibade was found dead on January 1, 2015, strapped to a restraining chair inside an isolation cell at the jail.
Jurors were shown the footage in court during the trial of former jail employees. Sergeant Anza Rowland, Deputy Greg Capers and Deputy Eric Vinson, are all charged with involuntary manslaughter. Corporal Maxine Evans and nurse Gregory Brown are accused of failing to check Ajibade’s condition and faking jail records to make it appear checks had been made.
Former Lieutenant Debra Johnson, told jurors that the action was justified under jail policies in an effort to control the inmate. The Savannah College of Art and Design student had been arrested after a fight with his girlfriend. The sheriff’s office has said Ajibade fought violently during booking and injured 3 deputies.
Chatham County coroner, Dr Bill Wessinger, said Ajibade suffered several blunt injuries to his head and upper body and had blood inside his skull. Attorneys for Ajibade’s family say he suffered from bipolar disorder and his girlfriend gave police a bottle of his prescription medication when they arrested him.
