This is why we are buying N4.7bn worth of cars – Nigerian Senate

The Senate has finally reacted to Premium Times’ report that it plans to illegally spend an estimated N4.7bn on exotic cars for its 109 members. It says the vehicles are to be used for execution of
committee assignments and not meant for individual senators.

This was made known in a statement signed by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Publicity. Abdullahi also said the cars in the convoy of the Senate President, Saraki, are so old that they are begging for replacement.
He added that: “We have been very frugal, responsive and responsible in our spendings. We have also cut down on several expenses. However, he did not explain why 10 cars were being bought for Saraki when the law only provides for six cars for him.
