In 2015, Nigerians abroad sent home $21 billion


Nigeria has emerged the 6th largest receiver of remittances in the world, the Migration of Remittance Factbook has shown. An analysis of the report shows that the USA and UK are the most lucrative destinations for Nigerian migrants.
The report, which relied on data gathered from January to December 1, 2015, was compiled by the Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development with support from the World Bank, German, Swedish and Swiss governments. Nigerians at home received $5.7 billion from the US and $3.7 billion from the UK in 2015.
With $56.3 bn sent out of the US, it is the top remittance-sending country in the world. The 2nd largest remittance-sending country is Saudi Arabia with $36.9 bn followed by Russia ($32.6 bn), Switzerland ($24.7bn) and Germany ($20.8 bn).
