Africa’s tallest statue of Jesus Christ set to be unveiled in Imo State




The 28-feet-tall “Jesus de Greatest” will be unveiled at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in the Abajah LGA, Imo state, on January 1, 2016. Jesus de Greatest, will be the 5th tallest statue in Africa. It has a total weight of 40 tons and is made of marble.

The statue was donated by Obinna Onuoha, a graduate of York St. Johns University in the United Kingdom and the Harvard Business School and the founder of Premier Petroleum Ltd. At 161 feet, African Renaissance Monument in Dakar, Senegal, is the tallest statue in Africa.


Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt is 2nd with 66 feet, Ramesses II, in Egypt, is 3rd at 30 feet. 28-feet tall Nelson Mandela Union Building in South Africa is the 4th tallest in Africa. The world’s tallest statue of Jesus is Christ the “King in Świebodzin,” in Poland, with a height of 172 feet.
