Adamawa State ex-commissioner sent to 10 years in prison for fraud




Today, the Federal High Court, Yola, Adamawa state handed 10 years imprisonment to former Commissioner of Local Government Affairs John Elias for defrauding Adamawa State government of the sum of N51.5m while in office.
He was first arraigned on the 22nd of October, 2015. EFCC had arraigned him as well as a company owned by him on 4 count charges of fraud. Justice Bilkisu Bello Aliyu said the judgement will serve as a deterrent to public office holders who may want to divert public funds.
The judge also ruled that he must return/refund the sum of N51.5m to the government. The Corporate Affairs Commission was also ordered to wind up Al-Akim Investment Ltd and have its assets forfeited to the FG.
